PLANT & PROCESS LAYOUT

Site layout work often includes many practical considerations, ranging from:

  • Process improvement
  • New product requirements
  • Improvement of team member working conditions
  • Budget considerations
  • Facility or zoning considerations

Applying some guiding principles, we want a site layout to foster smooth workflow, where work is done easily, with high repeatability & low waste. Further, we want waste to be visible as an abnormality, allowing for rapid response & problem solving improvement. Further considerations include product mix, volumes, labour costs & demand certainty.

In other words, this is typically where practical considerations must be creatively assessed as a series of trade-offs to establish one or more solutions. Much like the problem solving methods described elsewhere on this site, Lean process fundamentals are aided by good analysis, team member input & experience to identify practical solutions.

Sousa Consulting can help clients engage a series of professionals in support of site improvement projects, including design consultants, code specialists, contractors & programmers.
